September 13, 2023: Alibaba, the giant tech company from China, has good news. They are making their artificial intelligence model called Tongyi Qianwen open to everyone. This shows that the Chinese government is happy for Alibaba to share this tech with many people.
Alibaba Cloud, the part of the company that takes care of smart things like AI, said some big companies and a university in China are already planning to use Tongyi Qianwen.
Recently, China’s leaders have been helping companies grow their AI tech fast. AI is becoming very important globally, and China wants to be the best at it.
Companies like OPPO, Taobao, DingTalk, and even Zhejiang University will soon start using Tongyi Qianwen to improve their AI models.
Something else exciting is coming. Alibaba will soon let people use a free, open-source version of Tongyi Qianwen. This means even more people can use this smart tech for their work.
Some big changes are happening at Alibaba. Daniel Zhang, a big boss at Alibaba Cloud, has left his job. The new big boss of Alibaba Group, Eddie Wu, is now in charge. Wu sent a letter to all Alibaba workers.
In the letter, he said AI will be the most important thing for Alibaba’s future. He said, “If we don’t keep up with the changes of the AI era, we will be displaced.”
The first time people heard about Tongyi Qianwen was in April. Alibaba said this AI model, much like ChatGPT, will be part of all their business work.
