September 1, 2023: Whitney Wolfe Herd, the CEO of popular dating app Bumble, has an idea to fight loneliness. She thinks artificial intelligence (AI) can teach us to flirt better.
In a recent talk on “The Circuit With Emily Chang,” Wolfe Herd said many adults in the U.S. don’t date because they are afraid.
They don’t know how to flirt. “What if you could use a chatbot to help someone feel confident before they meet new people?” she said.
The need is real. The U.S. Surgeon General has called loneliness an “epidemic.” More than half of U.S. adults say they feel lonely. A lot of young people use dating apps.
But many get tired and stop using them. Data from Match Group, a rival to Bumble, shows this.
Wolfe Herd thinks AI can help in more ways. For instance, it can make dating app matches better.
She calls it “supercharging fate.” But that’s not all. Bumble is also helping people find friends.
They have a new app called BFF for this. “We’re building something new,” said Wolfe Herd. “Not just for love but also for friendship.”
She feels strongly that tech can help us be better at relationships.
Wolfe Herd is looking to use AI not just for love but for all kinds of relationships.
